Description
Sales-Lentz and TICE are both integrating hydrogen-powered buses into their transport fleets to transition away from traditional fossil fuels. Sales-Lentz is deploying 12-meter hydrogen buses on regional long-range routes, offering a sustainable alternative to diesel and hybrid vehicles, which will reduce greenhouse gas emissions, lower noise levels, and improve air quality in urban and suburban areas. Meanwhile, TICE is focusing on hydrogen buses capable of navigating narrow streets and tight corners, addressing the need for flexible and sustainable public transport solutions in both urban and rural routes.
Key Activities
- Infrastructure Development and Supplier Selection: Construct a hydrogen refueling station near the Sales-Lentz bus depot to support the quick and efficient refueling of hydrogen buses, and finalize negotiations to procure five 12-meter FCH buses, including a service contract.
- Fleet Integration and Preparation: Deploy hydrogen buses into the existing fleet to replace older diesel models, while training drivers and preparing buses for operation, with a launch planned by early 2024.
- Performance Monitoring and Operational Feedback: Monitor bus performance, fuel efficiency, environmental impact, and economic viability, while collecting feedback from drivers, customers, and staff to guide future fleet expansion.
- Switch to Green Hydrogen and Data Reporting: Transition to LuxHyVal green hydrogen, evaluate environmental and economic impacts, and compile operational data and insights to share with stakeholders and the public.
Benefits
- Environmental Impact and Emissions Reduction: Hydrogen buses significantly reduce CO2 emissions and other pollutants compared to diesel buses, contributing to improved air quality for local communities.
- Operational and Cost Efficiency: lower fuel costs, reduced maintenance requirements, and the potential for overall cost savings over the bus lifecycle.
- Community Health and Noise Reduction: reduced noise pollution, enhancing community health and livability.
- Improved Accessibility: Hydrogen buses are well-suited for routes requiring maneuverability in confined spaces, providing flexible transport solutions.
