Description

This use case involves the deployment of a hydrogen-powered light vehicle. The vehicle will be used to transport equipment, operating for extended periods in various weather conditions. The project aims to assess and compare transitioning a fleet to zero-emission vehicles, addressing the limitations of battery electric vehicles (e.g., limited range with full load). One hydrogen vehicle will be acquired, and extensively evaluated under real working conditions, especially under heavy load conditions.

Key Activities

  • Vehicle Selection and Procurement: Identifying and acquiring a suitable hydrogen-powered light vehicle.
  • Adaptation for Service Use: Retrofitting the vehicle to meet specific operational requirements, including the ability to carry specific heavy equipment.
  • Operational Deployment: Using hydrogen-powered light vehicle for regular service operations.
  • Performance Monitoring: Conducting extensive real-world testing to evaluate the vehicle’s performance, fuel efficiency, operational costs, and environmental benefits.
  • Data Analysis: Gathering and analyzing data to assess the feasibility and benefits of hydrogen-powered service vehicles.

Benefits

  • Enhanced Range: Hydrogen vehicles offer a longer range compared to battery electric vehicles, especially under heavy load conditions.
  • Quick Refueling: Hydrogen refueling is significantly faster than recharging electric batteries, reducing downtime and increasing operational efficiency.
  • Sustainability: Transitioning to hydrogen vehicles reduces greenhouse gas emissions, supporting Luxembourg’s sustainability goals and contributing to cleaner air quality.
  • Operational Efficiency: Lower operational and maintenance costs compared to traditional diesel vehicles, with the added benefit of reduced noise pollution.
